What if you already have everything you need to feel good in your body?
Let’s break that down a bit: Maybe your body is a joy factory. Or maybe you’re just learning where your pelvis is.
It doesn’t matter where you are on the journey toward feeling at home in your body. Showing up in your body to do the work really works. The other day was hectic--one thing after another, trying to get stuff filmed, trying to juggle kids and errands...you know, the glamorous life of a mom who also runs a business. My kids got into a fight with each other, and one kid really wanted to get in the pool afterward. *I* did NOT want to swim at 11:30am. I wanted to sit down, finalize some videos, maybe try to learn about Instagram Reels, maybe work on my newsletter....but I stopped myself while we were getting ready to get in the pool, and I thought: can I make this a joy factory activity, instead of being dragged under by feeling frustrated? And the answer was YES.
So I focused on how great it was that this kid, who was SO angry, realized that getting in the water would help him feel better, how sweet it was that he invited his brother along, despite their argument. I noticed how satisfying it is to vacuum the dirt off the bottom of the pool, how nice the sun felt on my shoulders.
And then I sat on one of our back steps, in the sun, and enjoyed seeing my kids hang out in the water. They just needed me around to be present with them. I didn't have to get in the cold, cold water. It wasn't bliss, but it was something closer to joy.
For a couple of minutes, I was able to feel good in my body just by being present to the moment.
So, that's how my joy factory practice went that day.
You don’t need anything but your body to find these moments. And your joy doesn’t have to be limited to small moments, snatched from the jaws of frustration. Your joy can be full-body, big joy, too.
But maybe you're not sure that what I say is true. Maybe you know that it’s not that simple, that it’s actually really fucking hard sometimes to practice joy, especially if your body doesn’t feel good to begin with. Maybe you want a guide, or a road map to find that sense of ease.
I'm still working out the details, but what I'm thinking about creating will help you draw the map to joy in your body. Sound intriguing? Stay tuned!
